Versatile fit for multiple products

When Villeroy & Boch approached us, their premium dinnerware was arriving in Australia in plain corrugated boxes, padded only with brown paper. However, while functional for transit, this packaging design fell short of Villeroy & Boch’s luxury brand image in retail settings.  It also did little to enhance the customer’s unboxing experience. The main hurdle in this project lay in the varied product range. Each plate and bowl had slight dimensional variations.  This meant traditional custom-moulded inserts became impractical due to high costs and long tooling lead times.

Our team designed a spring insert – a clever, recycled cardboard structure that absorbs shocks during transit.  Whilst it also adapts to varying product depths and shapes. As a result, the Villeroy & Boch sustainable packaging design required no expensive custom tooling, allowing for quick manufacturing and low setup costs. Made from 100% recycled cardboard, it aligns with sustainability goals while enhancing the premium unboxing experience.  It also delivers protection without compromising brand presentation.

Today, the insert is used to ship bowls and plates nationally. It protects fragile pieces while making unboxing feel like an extension of the brand itself.

Made from recycled board

Printed with vegetable-based inks

100% biodegradable

Retail-ready presentation

Porcelain dinnerware packaging doesn’t need to be clunky or wasteful. For this reason, for Villeroy & Boch, we created a refined protective insert.  It also accommodates a variety of plate and bowl sizes, balancing beauty with practicality. Made from recycled materials, the design delivers exceptional protection without sacrificing presentation. In addition, its versatility supports multiple SKUs, streamlining production and reducing costs.  As a result, the premium unboxing experience reinforces Villeroy & Boch’s legacy of elegance, refinement, and environmental responsibility.

“Sheree invested countless hours of her time and energy traveling overseas and testing hundreds of different finishes and textures before completely reinventing our hamper box. The result? A beautiful collapsible anti-scratch, anti-scuff, and eco-friendly hamper box that showcases our brand with simplicity and sophistication whilst protecting our hamper contents during transportation.
